The first edition of the Brazilian music festival "Brazil Calling" addresses Brazilian music in the years of dictatorship and its impact on cultural production in the fifth largest country in the world.

The fascination of the BRAZIL CALLING music festival lies in the role of music in times of suppression. During the dictatorship, the Brazilian population, deprived of its political voice and participation, became alienated rather than political. At the same time, a generation of musicians emerged that lived resistance through their musical creations.

To this day, participation in demonstrations and other political activism is still not accepted by the politically alienated Brazilian public. The BRAZIL CALLING festival is an open platform for meeting and an attempt to strengthen the flame of free thought and resistance through Brazilian music.

Das brasilianische Musikfestival "Brazil Calling“ thematisiert in seiner ersten Ausgabe die brasilianische Musik in den Jahren der Diktatur und ihre Auswirkungen auf die kulturelle Produktion des fünftgrößten Landes der Welt.

Der besondere Reiz des Musikfestivals liegt in der Rolle der Musik in Zeiten der Unterdrückung. Während der Diktatur war die brasilianische Bevölkerung ihrer politischen Stimme und Beteiligung weitestgehend beraubt. Eine Generation entfremdeter und unpolitischer Wesen wurde geschaffen. Gleichzeitig entstand eine neue Generation von Musikern die durch Ihre Musik Ihren politischen Widerstand auslebten.

Bis heute wird in Brasilien die Teilnahme an Demonstrationen und einem öffentlichen politischen Leben als Akt der Unruhestiftung angesehen. Das BRAZIL CALLING Festival ist eine offene Plattform der Begegnung und der Versuch, die Flamme des freien Gedankens und seines Widerstandes durch die Seele der brasilianischen Musik zu stärken.
